Music at Rushey Green
The children at Rushey Green have one lesson of class music a week. In their lessons pupils learn recorder, drumming and chime bars/glockenspiel/ xylophone for the purpose of leading them on to learn piano or a wind instrument. Our children benefit from music as a whole in supporting their mental and emotional development. Music lessons include reading and writing music using standard notation as well as exploring graphic scores. In year 6 the children compose and produce music using music technology. The Year 4’s receive 1 year of Violin tuition. The children are able to learn individual instruments with teachers from the Lewisham music service. The instruments learned are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, guitar, drum kit, violin and piano. The children have singing assemblies where year groups sing a variety of songs covering the seasons, celebrations and a wide variety of genres.
Rushey green has school choirs for KS1 and KS2 that perform extensively in the community and at interschool festivals and concerts. Our choirs have performed in local churches, Gospel concerts, Opera concerts, at the Blackheath Halls and at the O2. Rushey Green has a school band where musicians learning instruments can rehearse and learn band skills. The band performs in concerts and school events.
