RE at Rushey Green Primary School - The Jigsaw Approach
At our school, we use Jigsaw RE to provide a rich and engaging Religious Education curriculum that encourages curiosity, respect and understanding of different beliefs and worldviews.
Jigsaw RE is structured into age-appropriate groups from Early Years through to Key Stage 2. Children explore a small number of carefully chosen worldviews each year through enquiry-based learning, allowing them to develop a deeper understanding rather than covering too much content. Christianity is taught throughout the school, alongside other worldviews such as Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Humanism.
In Early Years, children are introduced to important ideas such as belonging, special places and stories, helping them begin to understand the diverse world around them. As they progress, pupils build their knowledge through thoughtful questions, discussions and reflection.
The programme is flexible and tailored to meet national guidance and local requirements, while also reflecting the diverse society we live in. It supports children in developing respect, empathy and an appreciation of different beliefs and cultures.
Through Jigsaw RE, we aim to help children become open-minded, thoughtful individuals who value diversity and are prepared for life in modern Britain.
